Testimonial: "Lipedema surgery changed my life"
At 47 years old, our patient emotionally recounts her journey with lipedema, a condition that is still relatively unknown but which has a profound impact on the daily lives of women who suffer from it.
After two procedures, she is preparing to undergo a third operation at our lipoedema clinic. Here is her story:
Unexplained weight gain and increasing pain
"It all started when I noticed I was gradually gaining weight."
Despite diets and exercise, nothing worked: I continued to gain weight, slowly but surely, especially in my legs.
Our patient also quickly experiences debilitating symptoms, such as restless legs syndrome :
"Every night, I had to stretch, get up, walk around the house... Even at night, my sleep was interrupted by this uncontrollable urge to move my legs."
Her legs began to swell and change shape. The discomfort became physical, but also social and emotional. "We thought I had lower back pain, but in reality, I couldn't bend down anymore because of the lack of flexibility in my legs."
A late diagnosis of lipedema
Referred to an angiologist, she discovers that she is not suffering from simple edema:
"I thought it was water retention... but they explained to me that it was fat linked to lipedema — a different kind of fat that doesn't go away with diet or exercise."
This fat, she explains, generally changes at different stages of hormonal life: puberty, pregnancy, and premenopause. And for this patient, the progression was rapid, within the space of a year: ankles, calves, thighs, arms... all these areas swelled disproportionately.
Lipedema surgery as the only option
"To date, there is no drug treatment for lipedema. So I decided to have surgery to regain my figure, but above all, to regain comfort in my life."
After two procedures, she is already seeing very positive results :
- Complete disappearance of restless legs syndrome
- Improved flexibility
- Greater comfort in your clothing
- Restoring the natural shape of his legs
Today, she is preparing to undergo another operation to treat her arms:
"For my arms, it's more of an aesthetic issue, but I hope to regain a more harmonious figure."
A message of hope to all women affected
Our patient's testimony highlights the invisible difficulties of lipedema, but also the effectiveness of surgery when it is properly supervised.
"What I feel most of all is relief. I feel alive again."
Through her journey, she wants to encourage other women to seek help, to put their pain into words, and to consider solutions that truly change their lives.
