vascular fragility

How can vascular fragility be combated?

Do you see small blood vessels appearing or bursting on your legs or thighs?

You may be suffering from vascular fragility. This condition alters the walls of blood vessels and makes them less resistant.

What are the causes and effects of this fragility? What lifestyle choices should be adopted to combat this fragility?

What is vascular fragility?

Hair fragility

Vascular fragility can affect capillaries and alter the lining of blood vessel walls. Small vessels then become permeable, creating small red spots. This is sometimes referred to as purpura disease.

When capillaries are weakened, the skin marks more easily at the slightest bump or pressure. The skin is also less resistant to temperature changes and appears cold and bluish. This capillary fragility does not pose any particular risk.

Venous fragility

Vascular fragility in the veins poses more risks than fragility in the capillaries. Vessel damage generally occurs in the veins of the legs. Vascular fragility is often linked to venous insufficiency (impaired blood return to the heart), which can lead to edema or even phlebitis.

If the muscle fibers (the architecture of the vein walls) are too distended, this causes dilation and therefore varicose veins. If venous insufficiency is not too advanced, it causes symptoms such as heavy legs. It is often associated with cases of lipedema.

Arterial fragility

If the vessel wall is damaged in the arteries, the irregularity of the vessel can form pockets called aneurysms. If these aneurysms rupture (ruptured aortic or cerebral aneurysm), the danger is very serious and can lead to death.

Regular exercise greatly helps reduce vascular fragility problems.

What solutions should be adopted in cases of vascular fragility?

The importance of physical activity and a healthy diet

It cannot be said enough: daily exercise is essential for good physical health:

  • Walk at a brisk pace for at least 30 minutes.
  • Ride a bike
  • Swim
  • Practice aquagym oraquabiking(very effective in combating venous insufficiency and promoting lymphatic drainage)
  • Gym, yoga, Pilates.

A healthy, balanced diet also helps maintain good blood circulation. It goes without saying that alcohol and tobacco should be strictly limited in cases of vascular fragility.

Manual lymphatic drainage and massages

These massages stimulate lymph circulation and help detoxify the body. They are performed in private practices, clinics, hospitals, and beauty salons.

Wearing compression stockings

Wearingcompressionstockings or socks is recommended in cases of venous insufficiency and heavy legs. This compresses the veins to promote good blood and lymphatic circulation.

Thermal cures

Venous insufficiency is one of the twelve therapeutic indications for thermal spa treatmentrecognized by the social security system

Three weeks of spa treatment allows you to:

  • Relieve venous insufficiency at all stages for several months
  • Treating the aftereffects of phlebitis, healing varicose ulcers
  • Reduce swelling.

Vascular fragility can be reduced by adopting simple healthy lifestyle habits.
