Outpatient medicine
Lipedema surgery can be performed on an outpatient basis, meaning that patients do not need to stay overnight at the clinic. This surgical method is becoming increasingly common in hospitals and is becoming more widely available.
This decision is made prior to the operation, in consultation with the surgeon, the Dr. Nicolas Zwillinger.
Even though one-third of our patients feel the need to sleep at the clinic, it is not always mandatory for you to stay there. Normally, after a few hours of rest and monitoring, you will be able to walk and return home at the end of the day. However, in some cases, the choice of outpatient treatment may turn into hospitalization for medical reasons in specific cases.

Outpatient surgery
Before the operation, the surgeon will decide whether you can have outpatient surgery.If so, you will be able to go home the same evening. After the surgery and a visit to the recovery room for post-operative monitoring, we will take you back to your room where we will serve you a snack. Dr. Nicolas Zwillinger or his assistant will come to visit you. If we do not observeany complications, you will be able to go home that evening.
However, you must be accompanied by someone you trust. We will explain all the emergency procedures to you before you leave. Finally, the next day, a nurse from the outpatient surgery department andDr. Nicolas Zwillinger'sassistant will call you to check that you had a good night and to ask about your health.
For outpatient surgery
- You can return to your bed and comfort that very evening.
- You can spend the night in peace and quiet.
- No frequent visits fromnurses, no noise from people coming and going in the clinic corridors.
- You are independent
- No additional costs to pay, there are fewer risks of infection.
Against outpatient surgery
- You do not have the physical presence of medical staff, although you can of course contact the clinic oranesthesiologistat any time from your home.
- You are not in your personal environment
- Additional fees for overnight stays are payable.
